Blogroll
I've been really enjoying surfing the web again and I wanted to share the list of blogs I've got in my RSS feed so if anyone ever ends up on my site they can find other, better writings to read. Almost all of these will have a strong focus on technical content, but there might be other themes rolled in. In no particular order:
- Amir Sharif. Here's the article that first caught my attention from him: Protecting My Attention At The Dopamine Carnival.
- arg min - Ben Recht.
- Ben Kuhn. I had this post starred in my feed reader: Impact, agency, and taste
- Hillel Wayne. A controversial titled one: Write the most clever code you possibly can
- Explaining Sotware Design - Zach Tellman
- fi-le.net. Try out Travel Is Not Education
- iRi. Check out the wonderful Functional Programming Lessons in Imperative Code. It's one of the greatest programming focused blog books I've read.
- Jepsen
- Lucas DiCioccio. I found Lucas' blog through the site generator he wrote. While I don't use the site generator, he has lots of other interesting things to say.
- Metadata. Lots of great formal distributed systems writing.
- MOND←TECH MAGAZINE. See Pipelining might be my favorite programming language feature (and it might be mine too!)
- Raptitude. The subtitle here is "Getting better at being human". Rarely have I ever found writing that speaks so much to the struggles I personally have had in "living". This blog is some of my favorite modern philosophy on living well. Also be sure to consider checking out his book, How to Do Things, its methods are how I got this blog started.
- Robert Heaton. My favorite article from him seems to be gone from the internet about mitigating the impact of smartphones, but it was great. His other writings are good too though.
- Sean Goedecke. I'm always shocked by how much I agree with what Sean has to say given how controversial it appears when reading Hacker News. As a senior engineer at a FAANG myself, his writings on being an effective leading engineer are the ones that seem most grounded in reality.
- Underlap - Glyn Normington. I really like his writing on Developer's block
After going through these, I'm sure you can probably tell my proclivity for reading hacker news, but I'd strongly recommend checking out more of what these folks have to say even when it doesn't make the frontpage.
A disclaimer: I haven't read all the writings on all of these blogs. Some might have things on them I vehemently disagree with. Don't assume just because I linked some writing here I agree with 100% of what is said.
